Beyond Profit

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Like most people I often have opinions on various news stories. However few stories ever illicit such a surge of feeling within than the current oil crisis in the Gulf of Mexico. In fact, so annoyed am I, that I was inspired to create the picture below. I know it’s not very original (I have since seen a few similar graphics flouting around the Interwebs) but what they heck.

Roxxi Sparks – Dragiators 2 Week 3 Challenge

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

This week’s challenge was a lipsyncing challenge. Personally I think Roxxi did very well. (See here for an explanation of what the heck is going on here!)

They’re Uprising To Take Me Away

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

My very first remix! They’re Coming To Take Me Away by Neuroticfish and Uprising by Muse. Very rough and unfinished but happy enough with it for now. :)

DOMINATE (2009-10-31) review

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

So another DOMINATE has come and gone. Last Saturday, October 31st (Halloween) myself, DJ Arkangel and Kerri took control of The Loft in The Forum, Waterford and played to what was, in my opinion, the best DOMINATE crowd since the very first one back in mid 2008. The music was pounding, feet were stomping and I think all in all, everyone had a good night.

I am particularly pleased with how my own set turned out with only one notable screw up on my part. :) DJ Arkangel was on form too, pounding the beats into the assembled masses and pretty much deafening anyone daft enough to wander near the speakers. And of course we can’t forget Kerri who made sure the DJs were well hydrated ;) as well as keeping the venue happy with us.

For those interested, here’s the set list of what we played:
DOMINATE Halloween Set List
Pictures will come later tonight.

I think (hope) that after that performance, we can look forward to things getting bigger and better for DOMINATE from here on in. I’m certainly on board, I hope you all are as well. :)

Thank you to everyone who came out to support us. Watch this space :D

Date your articles people!

Monday, October 12th, 2009

A particular pet peeve of mine is you do a search on Google (or Bing if that’s your bag) and when you click through to one of the results there is no date on it. This means you have no way of figuring out whether the article is brand new, outdated or otherwise time sensitive. This can be especially frustrating when dealing with articles about such a fast moving field as web development.

I’ve found this to be a particular problem with blogs based on WordPress as the default theme doesn’t appear to include the date of an article or blog post hides the date in small writing at the bottom of the post in the permalink version of said content. I want the date up top and visible. You’ll notice that my theme does just that ;) If you want to include the date in your permalink post pages, add the following code to the single post page (single.php) wherever you think makes sense. You can then style it however you want. Trust me, your visitors will thank you for it.

Hello World!

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Hi all and welcome to my new blog.

My name is Stevie and I’m an interactive media developer. I have been meaning to set up a website for myself for quite a long time, but have only just gotten around to it. :)

Here is where I shall discuss things such diverse subjects as programing, design and anything else that comes to mind, including my hobbies and interests. Expect to see posts about comics and DJing mixed in with serious discussion about jQuery and SQL queries. ;)

The layout and design of the blog are still works in progress, there are a few bugs which I am working on. If you spot anything, please let me know in the comments below.

I hope you all your stay here and I shall (hopefully) be posting new content tomorrow. :)

Stevie
